this past year 3 girls and 2 boys experienced sexual violence
(Together for Girls, 2024)
Millions of children worldwide experience sexual violence. This threatens the safety and protection of all children and adolescents in our communities.
Childhood sexual violence remains a taboo and continues to affect individuals, families and communities globally. For many years, victims have been silenced, stigmatized, and shamed whilst perpetrators have been exempt from justice.
That changes now: sexual violence against children must be recognized worldwide as an unacceptable, preventable, and criminal act.
We are survivors of sexual violence with different backgrounds and experiences, and we share a common knowledge of what it’s like to feel alone, to be hidden, to live scared and to hold onto misplaced blame. We know what it is like to carry shame and are working to ensure that others do not experience this.
Through the Brave Movement, we are transforming our shame into a call for bold and transformative action.
Brave Movement is committed to ending childhood sexual violence by fostering an inclusive movement that values every voice. Our movement warmly welcomes all—publicly disclosed survivors, undisclosed survivors, and allies who are passionate about our cause. Each person has a vital role in creating a world where all children are safe and protected.
We honor the bravery of those who share their experiences as survivors of childhood sexual violence and respect the personal choice of those who do not disclose. Undisclosed survivors can fully participate as “allies”, knowing their privacy is respected and that there is never any pressure to disclose.
We are also deeply grateful for and emboldened by the many allies committed to this cause. Brave believes that by uniting survivors and allies, we can amplify our impact through advocacy, education, and action. Together, we are driving meaningful change toward a future free from childhood sexual violence.
